Privacy Policy
PathShot · Last updated 2026-04-30
This is the privacy policy for the PathShot Chrome extension. Plain language. Short.
What we collect
Nothing.
PathShot does not have a server. We do not have user accounts. We do not track you, log analytics, send telemetry, or upload anything to a remote service.
What stays on your machine
- Your settings (save folder, clipboard mode, notification preference) are stored in
chrome.storage.local in your browser. They never leave your device.
- The screenshots you capture are saved to your local Downloads folder. They never leave your device.
- The file path of each capture is copied to your clipboard. Your clipboard is yours; we don't see it.
Permissions explained
- debugger — required to use Chrome's
Page.captureScreenshot API for clean full-page captures. We attach the debugger for the duration of one capture, then detach.
- downloads — to save the captured PNG to your Downloads folder.
- activeTab — to capture the tab you are currently viewing when you trigger the extension.
- notifications — to show "captured" / "failed" toasts.
- offscreen + clipboardWrite — to write the file path (or image bytes) to your clipboard.
- storage — to remember your settings between sessions.
What we explicitly do NOT do
- Send your screenshots to any server
- Read or store the URLs of pages you visit
- Read page content beyond what's needed to take the screenshot
- Track which pages you capture or how often
- Share data with any third party
Third parties
PathShot uses no third-party services. There is no analytics provider, no payment processor, no error tracker.
Children
PathShot is not directed at children under 13. We collect no information of any kind, so this is moot, but we say it because it's standard.
Changes
If we ever start collecting any data (e.g., for an optional future paid tier), we'll update this policy and require explicit opt-in. If you don't opt in, nothing changes for you.
